Visual Nature Studio 3 Feature of the Week

Years in the making, VNS 3 is the biggest 3D Nature upgrade ever.

With features that immediately benefit everyone from beginner to advanced users, VNS 3 is already producing great results in the projects of visualization experts around the world.

Each week our Feature of the Week will focus on one of the new cutting-edge features VNS 3 offers. This week's feature is:

DEM Merger Wizard

VNS 2 introduced the powerful DEM Merger, but with the power came a great deal of complexity. The DEM Merger can combine together multiple input datasets with different extents, projections, resolutions and qualities, in whatever priority you like, to produce a unified output DEM dataset with a common projection. The Multi-res option of the DEM Merger makes it possible to insert a high-resolution dataset into the middle of a lower-detail DEM, keeping the different qualities of each, but ensuring no troublesome gaps or overlaps between them.

VNS 3's DEM Merger brings all this power under control with an easy-to-use step-by-step Wizard walkthrough. At each stage, answer a single question about the input or output data, and let the Wizard setup everything for you with the minimal number of steps.

The Wizard can use existing Search Queries or create a new arbitrary selection set simply by manually choosing items in the Database Editor. The Wizard can choose the output resolutions for you, or you can control the settings yourself. Everything about the DEM Merger Wizard makes the DEM Merging process easier and more accessible.

Major improvements:
  • Supports single or multi-resolution merges.
  • Merges multiple coordinates systems.
  • Answer only the applicable questions one at a time.
  • Create merges using arbitrary selection sets.
  • Saves the resulting DEM Merger component for re-use.
