Visual Nature Studio 3 Feature of the Week

Years in the making, VNS 3 is the biggest 3D Nature upgrade ever.

With features that immediately benefit everyone from beginner to advanced users, VNS 3 is already producing great results in the projects of visualization experts around the world.

Each week our Feature of the Week will focus on one of the new cutting-edge features VNS 3 offers. This week's feature is:

The New Foliage Editor

All foliage in VNS 3 is now managed through a common Foliage editor interface found in the Ecosystem, Foliage Effect and Lake/Stream editors. A streamlined new design shows only the most important controls at any given time, hiding inapplicable or uncommon features and buttons and putting the most commonly-used elements right where you can get to them.

No longer is there an Ecotype Editor, Foliage Groups and Foliage Objects now appear together with the Overstory and Understory EcoTypes in one unified treeview. As you click on the Ecotypes, Foliage Groups and Foliage Objects, the user interface changes to show you the applicable controls for the chosen item. This feature alone was the selling point for many VNS users who work heavily with foliage.

Major improvements:
  • Hides inapplicable or advanced controls until you want them.
  • All foliage controls in one window -- no more EcoType editor window to get in your way!
  • Shows the entire foliage hierarchy in one treeview.
  • Presents only the controls that are applicable to the hierarchy level you're working at.
  • Easily add a Foliage Object without having to first add a Foliage Group.
  • Right-click on EcoTypes, Foliage Groups and Foliage Objects in the treeview to access type-specific popup menu operations.
