Getting Started
with VNS 2 Part 10.
Post Processes
1. Post Processes are
entirely new to VNS 2. Not only can we render many effects that
were previously done in post, but you can also use project parameters
to create effects that you can't do in post. Open the YNP9
project. Render the upper left Lake Sky view.
2. Go to the Render Task Mode and add a Post Process.
3. Name it Cartoon. Add
Post Process Event and the type will default to Gamma.
4. Go to the Event Type
dropdown list and select Chromax.
5. Select Preview Only
and the render will refresh and preview the Chromax effect.
6. Add another Post Process
Event. Choose Edge Ink from the Event Type dropdown
list.
7. That's a bit too much ink,
so decrease the Intensity to 20%.
8. Deselect the Event Enabled
box to turn Edge Ink off.
9. Add another Post Process
Event and select Text Overlay from the Event Type
dropdown list.
10. Go to the Detail 1
page and change the Y Center to 90%.
11. Go to Detail 2 and
type Lat: in the Text box.
12. Double-click Camera Latitude
from the lower list to add it to the text string.
13. Type [space] Lon:,
select, and add the Camera Longitude.
14. Type [space] Bearing:
and add the Camera Compass Bearing.
15. Go back to the Detail
1 page and increase the Width to 150%. Save
the project as YNP10.
16. Go to the General
page and Add another Post Process Event. Choose Composite
from the Event Type dropdown list.
17. VNS reminds us that best
results are obtained if the composite is done before reflections
are evaluated. That makes good compositing sense, so let VNS
enable Before Reflections for you.
18. This is the new and improved
way of compositing LightWave and 3DMax output with
VNS. Create the project in VNS and Export Scene from the
File menu to export it in LightWave or 3D Studio format.
19. Add animated objects to the
LightWave or 3D Studio scene and render to RLA output.
RLAs have both RGB image and Z-buffer depth information.
20. Open the Image Object
Library to add the first RLA image as an Image Object.
Give the RLAs a Sequence Attribute and they're ready to composite.
21. Go to the Detail 1 page
and add the RLA sequence from the Image Object
to Composite dropdown list. Read more about the new compositing
process in the Interactive
Reference Manual.
22. We're not going to use the
Composite Event, so go to the General page and
Remove it.
23. Confirm the operation.
24. Deselect Preview Only
to allow Post Process rendering to file. Deselect Evaluate
Before Reflections. Save the project.
25. Expand the Render Jobs
and Render Options categories in the Scene-At-A-Glance.
26. Open the Cabin Final Render
Job and rename it Lake Sky.
27. Change the Camera to Lake
Sky. Edit the Render Options.
28. Rename it Lake Sky..
29. Go to the File Output
page and Add a Targa Output Event. Name one AfterPost.
Name the other BeforePost. Select Save Before Post
Processing for the BeforePost event.
30. Go to the Post page
and Add a Post Process.
31. Select the Cartoon
item from the Post Process list in the Lake Sky popup window.
Confirm the operation.
32. Go to the Miscellaneous
page. Pixel Fragments are a big part of the reason that
VNS 2 has new enhanced rendering features and improved render
quality. If you're in a render time bind, you can decrease the
Antialiasing Quality value, but do test renders before
committing your changes to final rendering.
33. Open Render Control. Confirm the Camera, Options, and Save settings
for the Lake Sky Render Job. Give the Render Job a Go.
Show Rendering to view the render in progress.
34. When VNS is finished rendering,
the Rendering Complete window will show one of the renders.
Alt+] to view image from disk, and open the other image.
